Administration challenges in the In-In-Out programme for teacher training colleges

Abstract

The study was on administrative challenges in the in-in-out programme in Bibiani Anhwiaso Bekwai District of Western Region of Ghana. The main study was to unearth the administrative challenges associated with the implementation of the "out" segment of the in-in-out programme in selected schools in Bibiani Anhwiaso Bekwai District. In all twenty (20) Basic schools were involved in the study. One hundred and thirty-eight respondents participated in the study. The main research instrument employed to collect data was questionnaire. Simple percentages were calculated for summary of the different responses given. The major findings of the study were that the practice of offering "free" accommodation to teacher trainees was not sustainable. It became clear from the study that teacher trainees do not obtain adequate professional and academic support from their mentors. The study also revealed that the necessary logistics to support the programme were lacking. It was also evident from the study that Distance Learning Materials (DLM's) which were prepared to complement trainees' work -study conferences were not supplied in all subject areas. It was recommended that teacher trainees should be made to pay rent from thdr monthly allowances to support the programme. In order to encourage mentors to give of their best in mentoring the trainees, some kind of incentive package should be given to them. And for the programme to move on smoothly, the necessary logistics should be made available before it takes off.
