Abstract:
This research study intends to contribute to improving the competence level of
second-year students of the department of French at Mount Mary College of
Education. This study highlights the general oral communication strategies used
by the learners of French with focus on the specific communication strategies
used by each leamer.This research therefore focuses on the use of oral
communication strategies and the efforts deployed by second year students to
improve their participation of during French oral production in class. The
objective of this work is to study and analyze the major oral communication
strategies used among learners of FLE in Somanya College of education Ghana.
In this perspective, we examined different oral communication strategies used
by learners using mixed methods (qualitative and quantitative). Audiovisual
communication strategies of 77 learners in Mount Mary College of Education.
The analysis of the data revealed that, the oral communication strategies used
by the learners of French are abandonment of the message, code switching,
borrowing, word for word translation, lexical invention among other strategies.
The survey that was carried out and the results obtained serve as a basis for
future theoretical reflections and a guide for the identification of oral
communication strategies during French class.
