dc.description.abstract The study was conducted to see how effective the heads of Senior Secondary Schools in the Ga district are. The study sought to investigate the perception of teachers and students of the leadership effectiveness of these heads in the Ga District of the Greater Accra Region. The respondents of the study were teachers and students of five Senior Secondary Schools in the Ga district, namely the Presbyterian Boys Secondary School (Presec), St John's Grammar School, West Africa Secondary School, Odorgonno Secondary School and Amasaman Secondary/Technical School. Ten research questions were formulated to investigate such factors as the extent to which teachers and students perceive their heads to be effective in the administration of the school; and the extent to which teachers and students perceive the performance of their heads in creating an enabling environment for effective academic work. The study revealed, among others, that heads of second cycle institutions in the Ga district of the Greater Accra Region mobilize resources such as teaching and learning materials for effective teaching and learning. They also involve their teachers and students effectively in decision-making. Based on the findings of the study, a number of recommendations were made such as the need for heads of Senior Secondary Schools to promote effective teaching and learning, and undertake income generating ventures to raise fund for procuring resources. en_US
