dc.description.abstract The purpose of this study was to assess the staff welfare services in the Central Administration of the University of Cape Coast. The descriptive survey research design was chosen for the study in order to observe, describe and document aspects of a situation as it were. The stratified and purposive sampling techniques were used to select the sample. The sample for the study was made up of 55 senior members, 70 senior staff and 250 junior staff. The instrument used for the study was a questionnaire with 47 items. This was made up of close-ended and open-ended items. Data were analysed using the Statistical Product for the Social Sciences (SPSS) software. The study found among other things that the welfare unit in the University of Cape Coast functions mainly in matters of funeral organization. The welfare services in the University were not adequate and satisfactory. There was also no well-defined and documented welfare policy in the University. There was no co-operation among staff but there was co-operation between the University administration and staff representatives. Based on the findings, it is recommended that there should be a welfare policy to serve as a pivot around which the administration of welfare could revolve. Welfare should have its own unit to be managed by a senior member of an Assistant Registrar status. en_US
