Abstract:
The purpose of the study was to examine the effect of work-life balance and employee retention at the selected hospitals within the Ga West municipality. To achieve the main purpose, the following specific objectives were pursued: examine the work-life balance among the employees considering their personal and organisational roles in the selected hospitals, examine the difference for work-life balance for male and female at selected hospitals and examine the effect of work-life balance on employee retention at selected hospitals within the Ga West municipality. The study adopted a quantitative approach and the design was both the descriptive and explanatory research design. The study also adopted a census study however, 103 questionnaires were retrieved from a population of 104. The Research instrument used was questionnaire and the findings revealed that health workers were able to balance both work and personal/life roles and there were differences in mean score for male and female in balancing work and life roles. Also, it was found that a moderate and positive statistically significant relationship between the work life balance and employee retention. The study concluded that there is difference in mean score for work-life balance for male and female and work life balance practice is an important factor in increasing employee retention. The study recommended that the health authorities must institute effective work load management that explain the causes of imbalance and strategies for upgrading the quality of lives to crate the life and work goals, especially for the female counterparts.
